Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working as a commentator for NBC News in Washington D.C. and is a television anchor. She graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell started as an TV reporter and radio reporter at the time in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News a year later. In 1981 she started reporting on the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House reporter in 1992 and was also the Chief of the Foreign Affairs department at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared on the TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She was on the panel in the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell has a husband, Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her role in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first reported on for the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories, including the Iran-contra case and tax reform. She was with Ronald Reagan in numerous visits to world summits and reported extensively.
